Teenage Jesus & The Jerks "S/T"

In the late 70's, New Wave was becoming the punch line to every ass-licking A&R person and at any major label. Trying to cash in on New wave was the acceptable term to use for people who were too afraid to say they listened to punk or avant-garde music. So it was only a matter of time till No Wave lashed out it's ugly head from the lower east side of New York. At which time a teenage Lydia Lunch was starting to make noise that fit the standard that would become No Wave.

Lydia Lunch is an incredible provocateur/artist/superhero. She is one of the ever so important key elements to the No Wave movement in the late 70's, and a member of several projects throughout the years. This one being Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, the name alone says it all! And in the late 70's with all that shit rock music and progressive drama and gongs onstage, music was in a sad state commercially. Not unlike it is today. Hence, Lydia and various other individuals imploded into a scene that Brian Eno would fundamentally call No Wave and put out the "No New York" compilation album. Which pretty much said it all. Total freedom and militant anti-talent set the tone for the no-wave scene. Incredibly important and brought to light such individuals as James Chance and the Contortions, as well as D.N.A., Mars and Teenage Jesus & The Jerks. This compilation would become an instant classic and essentially became the Sgt. Pepper's of the scene.

This is Teenage Jesus & The Jerks only album.

Christian Death "Iconologia"

Christian Death was reunited in 1989 with the original members, with the exception of Casey Chaos on bass. This was the only Christian Death reunion, and the only Christian Death that ever existed would be the one that Rozz and Rikk are in. They created the true atmosphere and sonic landscapes that became Christian Death. There is no denying that to this day the songs and music stand the test of time.

Instead of putting the original album up, I thought I would put this one up since it was the band that reformed and toured across America and Canada, rumour has it due to the demand.

Rozz, may he rest in piece. He is a true legend!!! If you don't have this L.A. deathrock, check it out. I don't think you can go wrong, also to go with your ears, there's a dvd of this show that came out as well. You're soaking in it...

UK Subs "Endangered Species"

Charlie Harper and co. really delivered a truly classic album with this one. Even though every album up to this was a classic, it's no wonder this album appealed to punks, metalheads, rock 'n' roll fans and the like. It truly showed a new side to punk at the time. From the opening track "Endangered Species" just the sound of the drummer crashing the cymbols through the entire song, it pummels you all the way to the end. Yes, I guess you could tell, this is one my favorite UK Subs albums. Even though "Another Kind of Blues", "Brand New Age", "Crash Course" and "Diminished Responisiblity" are all stupendous. I think this one ranks right up there with them. Give it a listen, and get it if you can. Support Charlie Harper and his beer fund!! He's the man!

Patti Smith "New York 1975"

Live at WBAI studio, New York May 28th, 1975. With Ivan Kral, Lenny Kaye and Richard Sohl, they helped make this a truly historic night. What can you say about Patti Smith that hasn't been said a million times before? I saw Patti Smith on New year's eve a few years ago and she's still delivering the goods. For many who would do this sort of thing, they can come off as pompous or artsy-fartsy, but there is only Patti Smith and i don'th ink anyone, male or female, can touch her. If Iggy would be King, Patti would be Queen. A truly talented beyond belief artist that is all things Jim Morrison wanted to be. That hippy had to go!

This recording is perfect! Everything you wanna hear and everything that's missing in music today, is captured on this disc. The spontaneity, improv and language packaged all together with the sound...it is utter perfection! This may not be hardcore, metal, or punk by the masses definition, but for me it doesn't get any more honest than Patti Smith. A true revolutionary.

The Stooges "Live 1971 & Early Live Rarities"

Attention Stooges alumni!!!

Here is yet another Stooges live cd, not the best in sound but it is quite rare and the only copy I've ever seen of the St. Louis '71 show. Included are 2 tracks from Cincinnati in 1970 and 2 tracks from Wamplers Lake in 1968. Regardless of the sound quality, the energy and the power comes through loud and clear. The usual Iggy, absolutely unhinged doing probably one of the first recordings of "I Got a Right." Also included are "You Don't Want My Name", "I Need You", "Who Do You Love", "See Me Dancing", "That's What I Like", "T.V. Eye" and "1970" from cincinnati. And rounding it all off with "Ron's Jam" and "What's You Gonna Do?"

This was originally released on the top 40 label Starfighter. I think it went to the top with a bullet! As all good things do, top 10...overnight sensation... Yeah, whatever!! Anyway, this is Iggy and the Stooges, this ain't no high quality recording, but this is the best god damn band in the world! And I don't think you're gonna see this anywhere else, let alone find a copy of this cd. So you can't go wrong. I don't know about you, but I'd listen to the Stooges if I was underwater!!!!!!!

Symbol Six "EP"

Another Southern California band that would release one ep was Symbol Six. Take a little Adolescents and mix it with some early T.S.O.L. along with some Shattered Faith and I think you get the idea. They seemed to perfectly wrap up the So-Cal existence in an unforgettable 4 song ep, capped off with the ever excellent Beverly Wood. If you haven't heard Symbol Six's Posh Boy 12" you need to hear it here.

Wasted Youth "Reagan's In"

Great L.A. hardcore band that also later went crossover metal. There is no denying this is one of the true classics of the L.A. scene. D.I. "Team Goon"

Rikk Agnew strikes again, along with Casey R. from the Adolescents. D.I. was the classic off-shoot of what most drummers get tired of doing behind the kit and then take it to the front of the stage on the mic. This time of course with any endeavor Rikk Agnew was involved with in the 80's, I don't think you could go wrong. The classic song "Richard Hung Himself" would be the lead track on this debut 12" that would see Rikk Agnew weave in and out of the band's line up. The quality or importance would also be evident. D.I. took the true O.C. sound and even re-did 2 of Rikk's solo albums songs, being "O.C. Life" and "Falling Out." Once again, Rikk Agnew fans take note.

Discharge "Grave New World" (Master Tape Source)

****REPOST @320k****

So we're pretty sure that everyone that comes to this page has Discharge records, cd's, songs, etc...and probably most of you will hate this album, but this goes hand in hand with the Rock Hotel/profile influence on hardcore and even punk around the world. On this album Cal would sound more like Robert Plant than anything that was theoratically punk rock and/or hardcore.

I remember getting this record as a kid and being so pissed off because it wasn't what I expected Discharge to be. Lucky for you I have a copy of the cd, which seems to be non existent, and I'm going to share this experience with you. I'm sure for the most part many of you that were in the scene or are aware of this album will take your own judgements from that. I for one like the experiment and even like the occasional Bad Religion "Into the unknown" or various other bands that would venture into the unknown, not unlike DYS. Yes, this is Discharge with Cal, back in the day. For any Discharge fan it's a must have or must hear for many reasons. I would put this in a far far more metal category and I also see the record as a social experiment, or atleast that's the way I'd like to remember it! This is not a vinyl burn, this is from the master direct, so get it while you can!

Discharge have many other great records and are probably available at your local shop. Support the originators!!!

Plasmatics "Meet The Plasmatics"

"New Hope For The Wretched"

"Metal Priestess"

Growing up around a bunch of morons that didn't know anything about music and telling them you liked punk rock, you'd get one of two reactions, "Hey you Devo!" or "You must like the Plasmatics." At least that's the way it was in the south of America, in the backwoods. Due to television, these two bands got more media attention than the average band, and the sensationalism with both groups instantly tagged every redneck and inbred assfucker with the tag that this is what punk rock is.

The Plasmatics were truly a sensational band, kind of like a Misfits meets Kiss with a girl singer. Blowing up cars, getting beat up by the cops, one Wendy O. Williams would go down in history as one of rock's greatest, fearless frontwoman. There's nothing I can really say that could recapture all the shit that they were stirring up in the common American man. The band released several records and the one thing that particularly struck me, as a kid, and attached them to underground music is the fact that they were very personalized and fan oriented. Singles, colored vinyls, id cards, posters, and pornography.

There is no other band like the Plasmatics, before or after. Once again, for better or for worse. Included here is the impossible to find first 3 song 12 inch, the first album and the "Metal Priestess" ep.

Rikk Agnew "All By Myself" 1982

This is one of the greatest guitar players to ever live.

Between '79-'81 he would form/be involved/write/produce and be responsible for:

The Adolescents; Christian Death; Social Distortion (for which he was responsible in putting together); Rikk Agnew (solo); 45 Grave; Voodoo Church; The Detours; D.I. (which came later); and just about every other O.C. punk band at one time or another.

His body of work that is documented between '79 and '82 alone are landmarks on the Orange County punk rock scene. From playing with the Adolescents, to recording the first Christian Death album, to then record this solo album entitled "All By Myself" in which he plays every instrument including the drums. It is a testament to his sheer brilliance.

He still writes, performs and puts out records to this day. If you ever see Rikk, give him some money! Cause he's the real punk rock preacher who wrote "Kids of the Black Hole."

All hail a true guitar hero!!

Their material varies in quality and style. This album was, theoretically, their 2nd major release and was at the focal point for all the PMRC hearings in Washington D.C.
