Sin 34 "Do You Feel Safe?"

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by teenaged punk fans; singer Julie Lanfeld, drummer Dave Markey, and bassist Phil Newman went through a few guitarists before finding permanence in Mike Glass in the fall of ’81. The band released its first single, a five track EP titled “Die Laughing” on Newman’s independent label, Spinhead Records in 1982, and this lead to many a gig with the likes of the Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, The Misfits, Social Distortion, The Minutemen, DOA, & Bad Religion. The band recorded for a series of compilations including “Charred Remains”, We Got Power’s “Party Or Go Home”, & Gary Kail’s “Life is Boring”. In 1983 the band recorded and released their one and only album “Do You Feel Safe” (Spinhead), and toured their home state and Arizona. In 1984 the band recorded a track for Markey’s independent film “Desperate Teenage Lovedolls”, and did a few shows before disbanding in the fall of that year. !n 1995, the LA label Grand Theft Audio releases “Die Listening” CD, a collection of demos, live, and compilation tracks. Cut forward a dozen years to the fall of 2007, Julie initiates an all original member reunion, and the band meets and rehearses for the first time in 23 years. New recordings, first time reissues (remixed and re-mastered) of the long out of print EP and LP, and live shows to follow this year. (Taken from their myspace page here )

Headthrashers Live '87

Recorded live in January '87. This split LP of hellish black/thrash comes straight from the Municipal Theatre in Santo Andre, Brazil. Tracks by MX, Necromancia, Blasphemer and Cova, it's a great LP for some of you that are into the Brazilian cult side of things. Definitely brings you back to the old day feeling as Fenriz would say. I would say anyone that's into old school metal with a punk attitude, not unlike the new Darkthrone material, should check this out.

Husker Du "Everything Falls Apart And More"

Husker Du's 2nd LP would be yet another masterpiece, "Everything Falls Apart" includes extra tracks from "In A Free Land" which couldn't be more apropos for the times of today in American society. As well as the artwork and the lyrics of this band, as well as the ever so legendary Scream from Washington D.C., their lyrics mean more now than they ever have. These punk rock historians laid down the perfect combination and different characters for each song, unlike many other generic bands from the hardcore era. Just listen to the first 4 tracks, from the marching off to war anthem "From The Gut" to the genius pisstake "Blah, Blah, Blah" to the mind-blowing "Bricklayer", it just doesn't get better than this when you're talking Americana underground 80's music. If you haven't heard this band, check it out and find out what you've been missing.

What can you say about the music on this album released in 1981? Everyone talkin' about who was the first, fastest, blah, blah, blah... This album remains one of the true talents emerging out of the punk rock scene, as their first album released was a live record called "Land Speed Record". Right up there with Circle Jerks "Group Sex" and Black Flag's "Damaged", with whom this band would tour with and remain icons of the early hardcore movement. Later even being accepted by college radio and small time masses of America's wanna-be hipster club. I don't think anyone could deny the power of this album and the song writing above all remains untouched by any of their peers. There is only one Husker Du, get this record while you can!

Desordeiros "Do Brasil" + "A Lei Do Bicho"

Straight from the favelas of Rio De Janeiro are 2 LP's of some ripping metallic hardcore, reminding me of some of the classic bands you know from Brazil but with a touch of Japanese crypt-creaking madness, you can almost hear the gunshots in the background. Marcos Eliezer, Levi and Fabio make a great combination that was brewing in the late '80's during the crossover highlight years in 'ol Americana history. Each record still has a unique sound as "Do Brasil" has far shorter and abrupt songs as opposed to "A Lei Do Bicho" in which the songs are a little more cult and yet simplistic. Highly recommended to anyone into the sounds of the cold harsh side of Brazil and to anyone that appreciates the sound of metallic hardcore. This is a rare gem that we here at PNP could find no additional info for, so you be the judge and let us know what you think.

Christian Death "Iconologia" + "Only Theatre Of Pain" + "Deathwish"

10 years ago today a true pioneer and a great friend died off of Santa Monica Blvd. in the flats of Hollywood. He went by the name of Rozz Williams.

As any goth kid will tell ya, Rozz's Christian Death was truly unique and their first album and EP are flawless, the fact that Rozz and Rikk were mere teenagers and stands the test of time, says more than I could ever say. And if you had the good fortune of hearing this album when it came out, it was a really out there record, even from the punk rock/hardcore scene. The 1st record posted is a live album we did that I hear is out of print at this time, it was also filmed for a DVD that came from when we played around Los Angeles here and there and a full tour of America and Canada. On the 2nd post you have the "Deathwish" EP (their first release), as well as the first LP, "Only Theatre Of Pain" along with the track "Dogs" from the "Hell Comes To Your House" compilation. I would highly recommend this album to anyone if you have not heard it, even if you're not a fan of gothic music there was always something uniquely special about the original Christian Death. The guitar playing is unlike anything ever recorded up to that date, the bass player used a fret-less bass and played totally by feel, and Rozz's lyrics are far beyond his years and are a milestone in the annals of music history.
